Our lives are poisoned by many diseases. One of them is osteoarthritis of the knee joint. The disease most often manifests itself in women, mainly after forty years. Often, the disease disrupts the lives of overweight people due to the increased load on the joints. However, the disease can affect the body only in adulthood. It often develops in young athletes, as well as after injuries, so it is often confused with other diseases of the knee. To make sure you develop osteoarthritis of the knee, you need to determine the presence of certain symptoms.
Symptoms
Osteoarthritis of the knee joint is called gonarthrosis. Gonarthrosis progresses in three stages, each of which is mainly characterized by increased pain.
The diagnosis can be determined by the symptoms characteristic of the first stage:
- mild pain in the knee while walking;
- increased pain when descending or ascending stairs;
- severe pain in the morning after rest, weakens over time;
- swelling of the knees, in severe cases, synovitis is observed - the accumulation of fluid in the articular sac, which then fills the space behind the knee.
It should also be noted that severe pain does not occur suddenly. They are preceded by mild pain in the knees for a long time (usually several months).
The second stage of the development of osteoarthritis of the knee joint, in addition to increasing pain, is characterized by the presence of a painful crisis and the normal bending or non-bending of the foot.
In the third stage, the pain intensifies, making it impossible to fall asleep. Now the knee can only bend at an angle of 90 degrees, and it is very difficult to find a position where it will not hurt. Blood circulation in the affected joint is disrupted and its deformation begins.
In the third stage of development, osteoarthritis of the knee joint is very difficult to treat. Therefore, at the first signs and symptoms, it is necessary to immediately look for ways to regulate the joints.
